Australia vice-captain Shane Watson produced a sensational knock of 185 off just 96 balls to propel his side to an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match ODI series against Bangladesh on Monday.
At Mirpur, Bangladesh opted to bat first and posted a modest 229 for 7 in its 50 overs. In its reply, Watson just tore into Bangladesh hitting 15 boundaries and 15 sixes in his knock.
Watson shared an unbeaten 170 run stand with former captain Ricky Ponting (37) to help Australia pocket the series. Australia won with 26 overs to spare.
Watson's dominant innings meant none of the Bangladesh bowlers made any sort of impact. All bowlers were taken to task by Watson as he hit sixes at will. Bangladesh captain tried many options but nothing came through.
Earlier, Bangladesh slipped to 88 for five with only Shahriar Nafees (56: 73b, 6x4) providing any resistance. Later, wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored an unbeaten 81 off 80 balls with nine boundaries and one six. Rahim's 79 run sixth wicket stand with Mahmudullah gave the hosts some hope.
For Australia, Mitchell Johnson (3-54) and Steven Smith (2-34) were the best bowlers on view. Watson picked up one wicket at the cost of 35 runs.
In the end, Watson held sway with the bat as Australia ran home easy winners. The final match in the three-match ODI series is on 13 April.
